Downloading Files
There may be occasions when you wish to download documents and other
software programs from the Internet. Before you install any new programs you should always
keep the following in mind:
- Always have a backup copy of valuable files that would be lost
if your system were to become unusable. Be particularly careful about personal data files
that you would have to recreate if destroyed.
- Be certain that your computer has virus protection software
enabled and that you have the most recent update to protect your system from new virus
programs. Most virus protection software companies offer free updates on their Web sites.
- If possible, download files only from reputable, trustworthy
sites.
- Be certain to download files that are appropriate for your
computer's operating system. Files may be written for a specific operating system such as
Windows95, Macintosh, UNIX, or others.
