Helper Applications
These programs are fairly similar to plug-ins. They may be used independently from a browser.

PKZIP (DOS, Windows and UNIX computers)
By downloading and installing this program, you will be able to download and install other programs that are "zipped." Large programs are zipped in order to compress the data so that download time is faster. Once downloaded, these zipped programs need to be "unzipped" in order for you to install them.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Software
FTP is the method used to download files over the Internet. Most people usually just download files via pointing and clicking in their browsers. However, using an FTP program often gives you quicker access to transferring files. Delphi presents a good overview of FTP. Windows95 includes FTP software.

Telnet Software
Telnet enables your modern PC to emulate or "mimic" a text terminal on a remote computer system. You will need this program to connect to the Metro Net server to change your password and to access some of the Metro Net library catalogs. Please visit the telnet section of the Metro Net Help Center for information about configuring telnet on your system. Windows95 usually includes Telnet. Good sources for telnet programs include: Delphi, Download.com, and TuCows.
